How to launch ChatGPT ads: a practical pilot checklist
Prepare a ChatGPT ads pilot: verify your entity and countries, check billing, platforms and creative enhancements, test lead tracking and set spending limits.
To launch ChatGPT ads, verify the advertiser and target market, prepare the landing page and lead tracking, then configure the campaign before authorizing spend. Account creation is not a reason to activate a campaign immediately. Ads submitted during onboarding can start serving after approval when account and billing requirements are met.
Check eligibility before committing a budget
The legal entity advertising and receiving bills must be based in a country where self-service Ads Manager is available (89 countries and territories, checked October 26, 2026). This is different from campaign geography. Some new accounts can initially serve only in their home country; international targeting requires approved verification and the necessary home-country spend. Selecting another country does not override that restriction.
Postpone the pilot if the category is restricted, your entity is ineligible, the site is incomplete, or you cannot fulfill international orders. Agency access does not remove advertiser eligibility requirements.
Account, names and verification
- At ads.openai.com, use Login or Sign up. Ask an existing administrator for access if your company already has an account.
- To avoid creating an ad during signup, skip the website step and enter Ads Manager.
- Review country, currency and time zone before creating the account; the help center says these cannot be changed afterwards.
- In Settings → General, distinguish Account Name, public Brand Name and registered Legal Name. Brand/Legal Name changes trigger review.
Follow the verification flow shown in your account. If it uses Persona, submit accurate company information and only the documents requested there. Under Billing, check the payment method and billing profile. Do not send card details in contractor messages or repeatedly retry declined payments without investigating.
Prepare a useful offer and a working page
Example headline: “Bookkeeping for UAE businesses”. Example copy: “Discuss accounting for your company. Scope and service terms are on our website.” This is an illustrative draft, not approved advertising. The landing page should explain scope, exclusions, language, pricing method and next steps.
Example context hint: “A UAE business owner is comparing bookkeeping providers for an existing company.” Treat this as a hypothesis about intent, not a keyword or access to private prompts. Check current creative field limits in your account rather than assuming old specifications apply to every format.
Campaign settings and pilot economics
Under Campaigns → campaign dialog, review Campaign title, Objective, Budget, Start and end dates, Countries to target and Platforms to target. The current help lists Android app, Android web, Desktop web, iOS app and iOS web. Use only destinations your page supports properly.
Illustrative model: $50 per day for ten days is $500 planned media spend. At an assumed $4 CPC, that is approximately 125 clicks; a hypothetical 4% landing-page conversion gives about five inquiries. Neither assumption is an OpenAI forecast. Market CPC/CPM ranges are not a platform price list; minimum budgets depend on billing currency. Separately agree fees, taxes, maximum spend and a stopping rule.
Creative enhancements and integrations
Check Settings / Manage settings → Creative enhancement and campaign overrides. Campaign-specific settings take priority over account defaults; existing opt-outs should remain. For a tightly controlled first pilot where every wording needs approval, we recommend Off.
The current OpenAI help page schedules automatic enablement for late October. Check the account and campaign settings before enablement. Enhancements can change text, language, image size and destination without per-version approval.
Shopify and HubSpot integrations can help existing users manage catalogs or leads. Check account availability and tracking; installing a new system solely for a small pilot is not necessary.
Pre-launch checklist
- Correct entity, supported market, required verification and ready billing.
- One clear offer, accurate landing page, mobile form tested.
- UTM tags, conversion event and a test lead visible in CRM.
- Automation settings, schedule, budget and spend authorization recorded.
- Campaign status checked; no assumption that review equals serving.
Compare Spend, Clicks and Conversions with qualified leads in your CRM over matching dates, time zones and attribution windows. Platform clicks and website sessions are different events; allow for reporting delays. How ads work and GEO versus ads explain the surrounding choices.
What to do today
